Our team had an energizing week at the ISPE Facilities of the Future Conference in San Diego, where industry leaders gathered to explore how innovation, sustainability, and workforce evolution are reshaping life science manufacturing. From conversations on the expo floor to deep‑dive technical sessions, the event highlighted just how quickly the sector is advancing, and how essential it is to design facilities that are flexible, resilient, and future‑ready.

Conversations That Moved the Industry Forward
Throughout the conference, we connected with organizations looking to elevate their approach to facility design and project delivery. We also enjoyed collaborating onsite with our partners at HIPP Workforce Solutions, who continue to support teams across the life sciences with specialized workforce expertise.
Spotlight Session: The FFEX Sustainability Panel
One of the standout moments of the week was the FFEX Sustainability Panel, where Chase Jenkins, PE, joined representatives from BE&K Building Group, Hanbury, and Novo Nordisk to discuss the sustainable design strategies behind the Novo Nordisk Fill and Finish Expansion.
The panel explored how the project is setting a new benchmark for responsible facility design, including:
Targeting net zero emissions through thoughtful planning and operational efficiency
Prioritizing employee health and well‑being as a core design principle
Pursuing LEED Gold certification to ensure measurable, high‑performance outcomes
Advancing Novo Nordisk’s Circular for Zero (C4Z) Sustainability Program, reinforcing a long‑term commitment to environmental responsibility
The discussion underscored a clear theme: sustainability is no longer a future goal; it’s a present‑day expectation for modern life science facilities.
HIPP Design + Consulting supported this effort by delivering comprehensive engineering design services across mechanical, process, piping, fire protection, plumbing, electrical, and instrumentation and controls systems, along with owner procurement support and process optimization to ensure seamless, future‑ready project execution.
